Ingredient Spotlight: Peptides

So, what exactly are peptides?

Peptides are naturally occurring and their primary job is to be a “building block'“, to stimulate the skin so that it will produce more collagen and support your body’s elastin. Over time our natural collagen production decreases so when we use a beauty product that has peptides in it we are helping to support healthy aging.

how do they work?

Peptides are most found in serums and moisturizers as opposed to cleansers. They are most effective when they can be left on the skin or lashes for a longer period of time because they have to be really absorbed. Our body’s collagen and elastin are found in the dermis layer of our skin, the middle layer of the skin. Applying a product with a peptide and then immediately removing it does not give the skin time to fully absorb it. Peptides have to have time to work their magic.

When used in a beauty product correctly, peptides will help improve the skin’s barrier, reduce wrinkles, ease inflammation, aid in clearing breakouts, and provide extra support to your skin’s elasticity.
